‘Eibsee is a lake in Bavaria, Germany, 9 km southwest of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and roughly 100 km southwest of Munich. At an elevation of 973.28 m, its surface area is 177.4 ha. Eibsee lies at the base of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain’, (thanks Wikipedia).
Aiken and I are finally on our road trip through Europe. After a busy two weeks of Aiken converting his Mercedes Sprinter into our home on wheels it’s all felt like a mad dash, and with no real plan of where we are going we’ve relied on the advice of others.
Our first official stop! After 650+miles of driving and €5 poorer- after all the toilet stops (can’t believe you have to pay to wee), we decided to take a trip to Eibsee after recommendations from Aiken’s sister.
Bikes out and we took the long way around into the outskirts of the lake, lots of steep climbs to get the legs warmed up- which they needed, and a bit of faffing when trying to figure which path to take but once you get to the lake, it’s pretty spesh! Turquoise clear waters and the most beautiful surrounding mountains. After pedaling for 10k in the heat a dip in the water was on the cards.
Aiken showed me some of his mad diving and skimming skills and I got my annual ‘sittin’ on the dock of the bay’ pic.
Back to the van and off to our next location, Nauders.
